ASICS® is a legendary ninja in sport shoe making. The full form of ASICS is “Anima Sana in Corpore Sano”. It is derived from a Latin phrase expressing the ancient ideal of a sound mind in a sound body. In Sept 1 st, 1949 the company was started in the name of Onitsuka Co. Ltd. The founder Kihachiro Onitsuka was from Kobe, Japan. He started to manufacture sport shoes from his home. Before 1977, Onitsuka Co. Ltd was known as Onitsuka Tiger; in July 21, 1977 it merged with GTO and JELENK to form today’s sport sensation ASICS Corporation. It is famous for its sport shoe design especially for football, tennis, volleyball, cheerleading, cross-training, tract & field, golf, wrestling, cricket, martial arts, running and many other sport ranges.
Onitsuka Tiger's distinctive stripe mark and Mexico 66 line of shoes were adopted by ASICS. Thus, the vintage collection is still devoted to the legendary Onitsuka brand. Its stripes are registered trademark in many countries and a trademark of ASICS.
ASICS sponsors the national teams of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Italy, Japan, Puerto Rico, Spain and Sweden. ASICS also sponsors many individuals who are sportsmen and sportswomen related to volleyball, football, netball, athletics, cricket, tennis, triathlon and wrestling. In 2006 Winter Olympics ASICS was the official sponsor.
As a growing company in Japan, ASICS is a company with three thousand eight hundred employees and generated 171 billion yen in net sales and 13 billion yen in net income during the fiscal year 2006. From sport shoe sales only, ASICS generated sixty six percent of the company's income. Twenty four percent of sales were from sportswear and ten percent from sports equipment.
Internationally renowned football users of ASICS are David Suazo and Julio Cesar Soares Espindola from Inter Milan, Noel Valladares from Deportivo Olimpia and Shinjio Ono from VFL Bochum. |
